Week 30- BIG MOMMA WEEK

I am now 30 weeks pregnant! Yeah! My prenatal yoga instructor calls week 30 your “Big Momma” week, and I could not be more excited to be called a Big Momma! I can’t believe how quickly time has passed. When I first found out I was pregnant with twins, my doctor told me about the risks of preterm labor. Because of all the risks and complications that can happen with preterm labor, Joey and I set a goal of carrying until 38 weeks. Even though I am really uncomfortable, every day that goes by we just thank god that we are one day closer to our goal. So cheers till the next eight weeks. I hope these little guys grow into healthy little infants!

29 Weeks!

I am 29 weeks pregnant! We had an ultrasound on Monday and received excellent news- both babies are growing congruently- meaning they are growing together! Each baby weighs about 2 ½ lbs, and they are both head down in what they call vertex position. Because of their positioning, the doctor said I should plan on delivering naturally at this point. Obviously, like with any pregnancy, a C-Section might be necessary, but the odds have gone down. The doctor also told us that twins reach term at 35 weeks, where a singleton baby will reach term at 37 weeks. Basically meaning that although they are not ready to come out at 35 weeks, if they were born then they would be pretty normal little infants. When we asked why they develop two weeks faster than singletons, the doc said it is because twins are, and I quote “scrappy.” They are scrappy because they have had to compete with each other for nutrients and space the entire pregnancy- so they develop quicker. It just amazes me. Joey and I can’t wait to meet these scrappy little guys!

During the ultrasound, Tank turned his head towards the ultrasound wand and we could clearly see his face for a split second. It was amazing. The ultrasound tech was even impressed. Below are a few pictures from the ultrasound, but it is harder to see them because they are getting so big… so you kind of got to piece them together. The first picture is of Tank's face. The second picture is the top of Dozer's head.

Bread Babies, Dog Tags, Baby Bump 28 Weeks, & Building a Nursery

Wow! This has been a crazy week! On Wednesday night my co-workers surprised me with a baby shower. Everyone brought a "gag" gift. My co-work Michael made me babies out of bread with Joey's and my head! It was hysterical! Oddly enough, they felt like real babies- the bread was heavy. In order to show Joey, I seat belted them in my car and brought them home. It was definitely a sight. When Joey got home from work- he was shocked to find two "bread babies" on our dining room table. Check them out- it was such a great idea! I love their baguette hands!

One of my biggests worries with having possibly identical twins was being able to tell them apart. Well thanks to my co-workers I no longer need to worry...

Yes- they are for dogs, but hey who says they won't work for babies as well!!

My co-workers even put together photos of what our kids could possible look like... it is a little scary- so beware!

Needless to say, it was a great surprise, and all the gag gifts were so great!! I am so lucky to work with good people.

I also hit 28 weeks! Both babies have grown to be about 16-17inches and now weigh about 2lbs each. I am still feeling huge, but I know I am only going to get bigger!

Today, we started to put together the nursery furniture... well correction, Joey started putting together the nursery furniture while I supervised. Our air conditioning blew last week, and will not be repaired until next week, so poor Joey is sweating like crazy as he assembles cribs and the changing table. What a good dad! I am so lucky to have him. Here are a few shots of the "before" nursery...

Everyday I feel more and more kicks! Last night we had a prenatal class for three hours (yes it is amazing how much our Friday nights have changed), and the little buggers kicked through the entire class. The weird part was that Joey could barely sit still either- I guess they are like thier dad! We have another ultrasound on Monday. I can't wait to see them again.

27 Weeks Pregnant

I am huge! I can't believe I have 11 more weeks to go!
Each baby now weighs about 2lbs, and is about 14.5 inches long. Which means I have 4lbs, 29 inches of baby in my belly! WOW! I get another ultrasound on May 17th to check their growth. I can't wait to see them again.
On Monday night, I got a peak at them. Both of their heads are right by my left lung- which explains the pain. The doctor said they are head banging each other. When I asked if they could hurt each other, he told me no- but I can't help but worry. They still have a little room to move around, but with twins they end up running out of room a lot earlier than with a singleton pregnancy. We will see where they are next Monday.
I have been drinking tons of water to try to stay hydrated- I hear it is the best way to keep from going into preterm labor. Well to mix it up a little, I have been drinking sparkling water. The carbonation from the water gives both babies the hiccups. The other night, my stomach was going in all different directions! It was crazy. I have learned to lay off the sparkling water before bedtime. It is hard to sleep when your belly is bouncing!
